Harrie Boy's First Blood Test @ 27/12/2011

It was time to visit the vet again on 25/12/2011. However due to the Christmas Holiday, Bee's Parents brought Harrie to see his vet on Tuesday, 27/12/2011 instead.

Probably Bee's Mama didn't know what medicine was due for Harrie, thus he ended up not getting his deworming dose... T.T

Anyway Harrie didn't go to the vet for nothing. According to Bee's Mama, Harrie was weighed and he's already 6.4kg heavy!!!!! OMG! That's considered FAT for a Min, Schnauzer! Plus our Harrie Boy is a smaller size MS, and he's already considered as slightly overweight! Hmmm... this boy eats alot!

Besides being weighed, Harrie underwent a bloodtest to check for heartworm. It's great to hear that he tested negative for heartworm, and overall he's a healthy little dog~~ =)

Harrie's First Anaesthetic Experience @ 20/10/2011

Our Harrie Boy started to jump around on 3 legs again a day after (Saturday, 15/10/2011) he had to 'jam brake' while playing chase with Bee...

That was not the first time he had to 'cripple', so although we were worried, we decided to wait a few more days to see whether he'll automatically recover, just like last time.

However, his condition seem to worsen instead as days passed by. He became more and more 'weak' and looked tired all day. He would lie inside his playpen the whole day. Not only that, he was not excited about his food anymore. We couldn't bear to see him suffer anymore, hence Bee's Parents brought him to the vet on Thursday (20/10/2011), around 11am.

Below are details narrated to us by Bee's Mama:

At first all of us thought he had to undergo an operation to remove the extra nail-like growth on his left paw. Luckily, the vet decided that Harrie need not go under the knife after all. He was jabbed with anesthetics and within minutes he was deep asleep. That was when the vet did a thorough check on his painful paw.....

And then the scary part took place. Dr Vet took out a plier-like thingy and pulled out the growth from Harrie's little paw. Not only that, he digged all the bits and pieces of the growth from the 'hole' until it's clean. It bleed a little, but not much. Voila~! Done.

Apparently Harrie had to stay at the Vet's until he wakes up, which was about 4pm. Bee's parents went to fetch him home and boy, was he excited! He was as hyper and as active as he previously was! We were all so happy to see our Harrie Boy all cheerful, cheeky and greedy for food again! =)

Despite having to limp and have his tiny paw wrapped with bandage soaked in medicine, he was jumping around playing chase with us happily =)

Harrie Boy, you're a strong dog and I know you know all of us LOVE you alot eventhough you're naughty! =D

Harrie @ Dogathon 2011

Woo-Hoo~! 2/10/2011 was definitely a day to remember as it's the day where Harrie and us went to DOGATHON for the very first time!! In fact, it was also our first outing ever since the day we came to each others' lives.

I was pretty excited about the event from the day I got the flyer about the event. Initially I didn't plan to bring Harrie as I worry he might be too intimidated by all the people and of course his fellow furry mates. And I'd been overprotective of him as I do not wish he'll provide residential areas for all the ticks, fleas and other parasites......

Luckily Bee was against my idea. He wanted Harrie to live his 'dog' life and 'Be a Dog', not merely a home pet. It was indeed an awesome idea, Harrie did enjoyed his day!

Due to his last minute notice of bringing Harrie along, I had to rush to PetsMore to buy anti-flea products the night before the event (had to go alone as Bee need to attend a friend's wedding dinner).

Harrie was at first kinda nervous when he had to walk on tar road and the grassy field. I suppose it's due to his 'homey' nature. Not too much of a social butterfly... XD

Our Harrie was excited, yet stressed out throughout the outing. One moment he was excitedly sniffing butts of FEMALE dogs, suddenly he's all flat on the ground when other dogs started to bark at him (I remember clearly how 3,4 Shih Tzus barked angrily at him when he was trying to be friendly... Geramnya!). Most of the time Harrie was in my arms. I guess his left paw was really painful for him to trot on.

We got our hands on plenty dog food samples! Sooooo heavy! Both Bee and I was super tired after the event! Then again, we were glad and happy we went there with our cheeky yet manja Harrie Boy =]

Mind you, Harrie's picture was even in the newspaper!! =D

Lovable Furkid

Our furkid Harrie is really a lovable pet. Since the day we brought him home, he never really gave us much problem.

At the beginning, he will pee and poo anywhere he please. After a few nagging and not-so-intensive 'training', he finally learned that the pee poo tray was not his bed, but his toilet. It didn't really took long before he's housetrained~! =)

Harrie really made us feel that having a Min. Schnauzer as a pet is an easy task. But I know that this is not true. Not all dogs are so easily trained like Harrie. From the few forums I browsed through, many MS owners had various trouble with their pets: eg: separation anxiety, poop eating habit, barks uncontrollably. Harrie has none of these. He's really a great pet.... I love him so much!

One memory about him that I don't wish to forget is how he finally learned to go in and out of his playpen swiftly. When we first installed the playpen with door, he had problem jumping in/out from the door opening (the opening was too high?). He kept tripping or hitting his leg on the steel. I was sorry for him when I saw his fear and helplessness when we tried to 'force' him in/out of the playpen (we were just trying to train him...). There was one moment when I thought we could cut the door opening bigger so that Harrie could just walk in/out instead of jump, but Bee didn't really agree with that idea. He felt that Harrie should adopt to his environment, and not making the environment adapt to him (suddenly felt that he's kinda wise sometimes XD).

And without us realising, Harrie was already jumping in and out of the playpen like a champ! =)

In fact, he jumps quite often now. He had grown out of his fear and we're really proud and happy for him.

However, our gem here is still afraid of heights! Couldn't even go up the stairs..... =P

Harrie's Paw Prints~!

Finally Harrie's paw prints was framed~!

Personally I'm quite satisfied with the end result, although the prints didn't look as obvious as how I imagined. Then again, they're still nice, and were printed using our Harrie's paws!

A very memorable item indeed...... =)

Paw Printing @ 16/9/2011

While waiting for the movie "Nasi Lemak 2.0" to start at 9.45pm (14/9/2011), Bee and I went into Jusco to kill time. That was when I stumbled upon some pretty cute DIY set for children. While I was browsing through the boxes, what caught my eyes were 2 DIY kit meant for pet dogs!

Too bad time was limited and I didn't get to decide whether to buy or not.........

Yesterday was Malaysia Day. Bee had to work, hence I went for breakfast and grocery shopping with Bee's parents, popo and Sis. And that was when I had the chance to buy those 2 DIY kits for Harrie Boy!

The 2 DIY kits which cost me RM50.20 after 10% discount..

Bee had to go for his friend's bachelor party a.k.a 'eat fried mee' (Ipoh Cantonese slang), so I had to wait until around 10.40pm before we can start our paw printing project with Harrie Boy~!

Step 1: Pour the plaster powder (150g) into a mixing bowl and add 75-90ml of water gradually while stirring the mixture

Step 2: Pour the mixture after it becomes a smooth paste into the mould and gently shake it to smooth the surface and to get rid of any bubbles

Bee's mama and Harrie Boy watching with interest XD

*Cheese* for the camera~!

Step 3: Time to print Harrie's paw when the plaster turns into soft dough texture.. He looks so nervous here! Cute picture of him! =)

How will Harrie's paw print turn out to be? =)

Anticipating my next post!!

Where Did 'Harrie' Come From?

I’d actually come up with a few names that I would wana give my future dog (before I got Harrie). With the intention to buy a black and silver Miniature schnauzer, I thought the name Oreo would suit it perfectly. Just so that I could have more choices, I came up with the names Tobey and Oscar too, just in case I ended up with a salt and pepper puppy.

Eventually Bee bought a 9 months old Black and Silver for me. But somehow, the name Oreo didn’t really appeal to Bee’s Mama. She was concerned that the pronunciation for ‘Oreo’ might be mispronounced as ‘Oh Liu’ (means pee/urinate in Cantonese). Tobey and Oscar also got banned by Bee…… =(

After considering for 2 days, Bee made up his mind to name the pup ‘Harrie’ (due to the hairy-ness of the dog).

Frankly I was very disappointed when I couldn’t even name ‘my’ puppy….. Anyway, Harrie’s presence in my life (and our life) really brightened my days a lot! Love him lots! And of course Bee too =)

Harrie Boy's Antics

Since Harrie Boy came into our lives, the amount of joy and laughter have increased tremendously in our household.

Despite initially deciding that Harrie will belong to me (his 'master'), somehow he see Bee's Mama as his main owner instead. Well, I can't really blame anyone on this. Due to work commitment, I rarely have the time to bath, feed, comb, find fleas and do every other compulsory activities for/with him. Luckily Bee's Mama and Papa treat Harrie really well, and love him just as much as I do..  =)

Until now, Harrie is already used to all of us and had already marked his territory within our house compound. Being with us for 3 months plus to date, it feels like a few years to me. He's really very much a family member already. He has developed several cute antics that tickled all of us everytime he does them! He's really a cheeky boy!

Hmmm... let's see what are his habits until today:
  • runs to the bottom of the house staircase everytime he hears someone walking down; tail wagging; standing on his 2 hind legs, anticipating and welcoming that particular someone (be it Bee's Mama, Bee's Papa, Bee or me) to pat him and play with him
  • same as above, but instead of waiting for us to come down the stairs, he does the same thing when we came home from outside (work, shopping, etc)
  • barks angrily whenever he hears or sees strangers (including unfamiliar cars, bikes, bicycles) outside the house gate
  • barks super angrily when he hears the sound of gas cylinder being moved on the floor!
  • also barks angrily when he hears the sound of heavy bottles being moved on the kitchen table (the sound is similar to gas cylinder being moved)
  • enjoys playing 'chase' with us - he will run super fast when we playfully chase him around the house; he will feel that he's safe when he runs into his playpen XD
  • often licks his water feeder by standing on 3 legs!
  • walks super duper manja when he's happy and excited, especially when he sees his fav food! - the walk is like skipping cum trotting (similar to how the horses marched during Prince William and Kate's Wedding)
  • will somehow 'gostan' (slide baskwards slooooowly) when he's sitting on his butt
  • hates sour oranges
  • loves sweet fruits - watermelon, papaya, banana, apple, durian, cempedak...
  • fav toy to date = KONG Braidz - Zebra
  • will feel guilty when he does wrong things (eg: poo-ed outside his pee-poo tray, licked water from the toilet..) - his ears would be flat backwards and he walks in a sheepish manner! XD
  • loves his dried Salmon meat treat!
Wow... the list is long! XD

Just for the record, below are some his personal details!
  • Real Name (as registered in his MKA Cert) : TCW Perfect Nobleman
  • Father: Globalmie Oliver (salt & pepper)
  • Mother: Jungle Book Venus (black & silver)
  • Colour: Black & Silver (his cert stated that he's salt&pepper, but he doesn't look like one to me)
  • Status: Single and available!

We love Harrie Boy to bits! He's the best furkid!! Muacks~!

The Day We Met @ 17/5/2011

Actually I didn’t PLAN to get Harrie. Initially bf and I were on our way to Pasar Malam. Somehow we passed by a pet shop and without realizing it we were already inside the shop, looking at pups. And then we saw him.

    He’s sooooooo CUTE!

Unlike most Min Schnauzers who have droopy ears (if they’re not cropped), his were standing (Bf’s preference!)! And he’s a black and silver MALE (my preference!)! We fell in love with him there and then. But I was still not ready for a new pup yet that moment. However, bf felt that this was a rare opportunity. We actually went to browse quite a number of pet shops before, but none had the magnetic effect like the one Harrie emitted. Either the dogs were females, or have droopy ears or colours not attractive. A thousand reasons for not buying a dog just yet. Min Schnauzer puppies are tricky in the sense that we won’t be able to determine their true coat colour until they grow older (6 months & above). Harrie was already 9 months old when we saw him, and his colour was just nice! The only regret was that we missed his puppy days… =(

He’s already almost all grown up when bf swiped his credit card at 11pm! YES, from going to buy a RM5 shorts at Pasar Malam, he bought a RM 1000 dog at 11pm!! He’s an impulsive buyer, eh?

Prince Harrie is a cute and nice boy. Everyone loves him to bits! But he has fear for heights. Hahaha… funny boy! I look forward to seeing him everytime I’m at work, out to movies, etc… Now when bf and I go out, we frequent the Pet Stores most of the time to buy goodies for Harrie. Hahaha…
